Working in the project room
For which grade or age levels is SCHOLA-21 suitable?
There are no upward or downward age limits for SCHOLA-21. According to our experience, projects may already be carried out in elementary school with competent pedagogical support.

How many computers are required for working with SCHOLA-21?
If you don’t have one computer per person, we recommend you either work on one computer with two or three persons simultaneously or use SCHOLA-21 in small groups at different times.
Can several persons on one computer be logged into SCHOLA-21 simultaneously?
For each existing browser, one login procedure is possible. In other words, if there are two browsers installed on a computer, two persons can work simultaneously in SCHOLA-21 on that machine. In this case, the SCHOLA-21 start page will open in both browsers (once in Mozilla Firefox and once in Internet Explorer, for example), allowing separate logins in each browser window. Alternatively, some browsers provide the option of opening several browser windows with the SCHOLA-21 login page.
Are persons from external institutions allowed to enter the project room?
They are most welcome! External partners may get actively involved in project work by becoming a member of a SCHOLA-21 project room, completing their own profile, and participating in project communication. Holding an expert discussion in a protected SCHOLA-21 chat room may be another possible method of cooperation.

How can members of a project room communicate with each other?
The project room provides a number of possibilities for open communication such as the corkboard, the chat, and the “meetings” function. Members can communicate privately with one another by using the “messages” function. In order to use this function, they first need to put together a list of contacts in their address books by searching for the respective members in the project room, viewing their membership cards, and selecting the “Add to address book” button.
Is it possible to also send emails to external email providers from inside the project room?
Yes, this is possible via a secure connection. In the “Email” section under “Communication,” you may send emails to external accounts. The recipients will answer the email via a link. Reply mails will be filed under “Email.” Using this procedure, the project group does not have to reveal their own email address and is protected from unsolicited emails.

Can SCHOLA-21 projects communicate with each other?
Exchange between projects is possible in the community space, where learning groups can discuss in specialised forums or contact each other using the search function.
Which help functions are available within the SCHOLA-21 virtual learning environment?
Working with SCHOLA-21, you can resort to a context-sensitive help tool, Lara and Lars. Lara answers questions concerning SCHOLA-21’s technical functionality while Lars provides pedagogical tips for using the SCHOLA-21 modules. When required, Lara and Lars can be activated by a click at any place within the interactive classroom.

How can project information and results be saved and protected?
After completing a project, you can save the results in their final version by deactivating all members except for the person who has registered the project. The final version can then only be viewed “externally” via the project homepage. Another way of saving data is by saving individual project components as PDF documents in the “portfolio” section.
How can I make sure that no objectionable pictures or other files are uploaded to the project room or the project homepage?
All files uploaded to the project room and the project homepage are identified by name and may thus be traced back to their authors. If you wish to save the project homepage in its final version after the project has been completed, we recommend deactivating all members via the preferences section before publishing the project homepage.

Why is our project homepage not visible yet?
The homepage is published in the preferences section. As long as the “Publish” command has not been selected, the project homepage cannot be accessed from the outside. The homepage’s content and design can be adapted anytime after publication. This enables project groups to make parts of their project accessible even when it is still in its initial stages and to keep their work processes transparent.
What happens to the project room and the project homepage after our project has been completed?
Both the project room and the project homepage remain in place unless the person who has registered the project wants the room to be deleted. After completing a project, its members may be deactivated to save the project in its final version.
How can I terminate my membership in a project room?
Members who do not want to participate in a project any longer may leave the project in the “Projects” section under “My SCHOLA-21.” Their contributions to the project remain in place.
